Ford Bronco II Compared To Ford Ranger

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Sold between the years 1984 to 1990, the Ford Bronco II was built and made to be a compact sport utility vehicle. It was basically built to be a compact complement of the full sized Ford Bronco. It was also centered in order to be the direct competitor to the Chevrolet S ten Blazer and the Jeep Cherokee.

This automobile held a 94 inch Wheelbase that was very similar to the Volkswagen Beetle. The mechanical parts were much like the Ford Ranger pickup’s mechanical parts. The first models came out equipped with a 2.8 litre V6 engine which was much like the 2.8 liter engine that was employed in the Ford autos marketed and sold in Europe. Come the year 1986, the Ford Bronco II came introduced with a 2.9 litre EFI V6. It has been asserted this engine was cursed from the beginning with design failings. This engine frequently suffered from premature cylinder head failure and loss of valve train lubrication too. This occurred when the valve train lubrication was not rigorously maintained. However, Ford was in a position to see this flaw immediately and it acted on changing or correcting this flaw in the soonest time possible. Come 1989, this mistake was corrected. However, the Ford Bronco II had already amassed repulsive comments and a not so good reputation to potential buyers. These buyers were concerned about the safety of this auto.

This vehicle has also been reputed to tip over during some eventualities due to the high center of gravity. Later on in 1991, the Ford Bronco II platform underwent a major redesign and was released to be wider and longer. However, regardless of the bad kind of reputation this car received, the Ford Bronco II still continued to be actively sought by customers and patrons who are looking for an inexpensive, solid and compact sports utility vehicle. Of course, these buyers would have to do some work on it but the replacement parts and engine could be found easily for the Ford Bronco II could have an engine swap with the Ford Ranger.

Dodge Hornet Vs Scion

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Toyota’s Scion brand has been a runaway hit for the Japanese automaker ever since being launched in 2003. Designed to appeal to Generation “Y” buyers, the autos are popular, edgy – some people would say ugly – and have given Toyota a vital toehold with young buyers. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are making ready to respond to Scion, but in different ways. GM is intending to import more vehicles from its Daewoo subsidiary while Ford and Chrysler are anticipated to build all new Scion fighting autos in Mexico, good news for motorists looking for affordable and quality automobiles. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pike.

For the record, Scion isn’t the sole auto made for the Generation Y crowd. Honda’s Part and soon to be released Fit subcompact are Scion rivals while the Chevy Cobalt, Dodge Caliper, and Saturn ION are also targeted toward young drivers. With that having been said, Dodge [Chrysler] and Ford must respond and it seems that both automakers will be fielding Scion fighters within the next two years.

The Dodge Hornet

Lo and behold, Dodge is nearing the finalization of its plans to build the Dodge Wasp . According to industry sources including Edmunds, the Hornet will be based on the VW Polo, a subcompact auto built by Volkswagen and popular in the EU market. This deal is amazing as Volkswagen and Mercedes [a DaimlerChrysler division, as is Dodge] compete fiercely, particularly in Europe. VW has a plant in Mexico that likely will produce the Hornet as the Firm has excess capacity and the cost advantage that no American manufacturing plant can offer. For its part, VW gets to sell rebadged versions of the Dodge Caravan minivan.

If based on the Polo, the Wasp is expected to use the Polo’s 1.6L engine and be coupled with a VW transmission. Beyond that, look for the vehicle to be closer in appearance to the Scion xA design, sport a 5 door hatchback design, and seat 5 passengers. Now , the xA sells for just over $13,000, so expect the Dodge to challenge at or below the Scion price.

The Ford Bronco

Don’t expect Ford to sit back and watch from the sidelines as the market trends toward more Scion-like automobiles. In 2004 a concept Ford Bronco, taking styling cues from the 1966 Bronco truck, made its appearance at car shows. Now, Ford appears ready to go ahead with the Bronco which will be built in Mexico.

Featuring a boxy design, the Bronco will be similar in design to the xB and to the Hornet and will probably be built on the current Fiesta platform to hold costs down. Indeed, Ford is hoping that a budget Bronco will sell for under $10,000 as it battles cheap imports expected from China as well as other Generation “Y” autos on the market.

Yes, the automobile wars never end and more battles are certain to ensue. Both Nissan with its Versa and a tiny Toyota by the name of Yaris will shortly be released and competing on the market before the Hornet and Bronco arrive in 2008 as 2009 models.
