My Ford Dilemma

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Every single driver will obviously have differing categories and stipulations regarding what makes a superior car. Some will be of the opinion that power, speed and performance are the mark of a truly great car and suggest that the Bugatti Veyron or something similar is the perfect car. Others will hold esteem in a more aesthetic nature and put forward cars such as the Bentley Continental and the Aston Martin Vanquish as the real purveyors of automotive perfection. I have always held the opinion that the truly wonderful cars don't focus on one thing, but try to encapsulate the needs and desires of everyone into their designs and engineering. This is precisely why my favourite car is the brand new Ford Focus.

Now you may be laughing or deriding me for saying that I would rather own a Ford Focus than a Pagani Zonda or a Koenigsegg, but that simply isn’t true. I would love to own one of the many supercars or hypercars that are available on the market and if you gave me £1 Million to spend on a car I wouldn’t disappoint you. All I am trying to say that in a practical world the new Ford Focus is a lot less likely to frustrate you than a supercar. Let me show you what I am thinking.

First of all you have fuel efficiency to take into account. Ford have become synonymous with engineering which seems to sip very frugally at the fuel reserves and the Focus is no different. With economical driving disciplines in place it is possible to get supermini standard fuel economy from a Ford Focus. This leaves you with more money in your wallet and having to spend less time stood at the pumps, refilling every few hours.

Secondly the issue of practicality has to be addressed. Everybody has to do a weekly shop, or pick up comestible goods from town or the city centre. In a Ford Focus this is a relatively painless task. Parking is very easy, boot space is magnificent and thanks to the Ford Focus’ ‘understated’ beauty, it won’t attract vandals to pull it to bits. Adversely, if you choose to do your food shopping in your new Ferrari 599, you are going to find parking excruciatingly difficult, discover you only have the luggage space to fit a small punnet of Satsumas and the vandals will tear your Ferrari badge and wing mirrors off before you can even say “hands off my car!”

I will admit, owning a supercar would be a dream come true, I have a very soft spot for the Lamborghini Gallardo myself, but in an increasingly practical world, it becomes almost impossible to think of an apt time to use one. With the cost of petrol, the congestion on the roads and the increasing number of uninsured drivers on the road, why would any drive for pleasure?

Take my advice and get the best practical car money can buy; the brand new Ford Focus. You will get great performance and fantastic economy, just don’t expect 0-60 in under three and a half seconds.

My Used Car Search

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

The Used Car market can become an increasingly frustrating place to be buying your vehicles from. I have almost lost count of the amount of times I have been sold a dummy, or a car that has almost failed the second I get it off the dealership forecourt. It is with this in mind that I reluctantly began my search for a Used Car for my wife last weekend. From the outset a few particular things didn’t exactly encourage me that this Used Car shopping trip was going to be any different to the usual disappointing cavalcade of pushy salesmen and clapped out cars.
Firstly, my wife couldn’t decide what car she wanted;
“I’m not sure if I want a BMW, a Lexus or a Mercedes." She kept saying as if it was some mantra designed solely to anger me.
Every Used Car dealership we visited yielded the same collections of rusty cars that would fail to inspire even the most dense of car buyers. The salesmen who populated these horrible dealerships were also the very paean of annoying smarm that has become a cliché of the used car trade. Every solitary time one came near in their cheap suits and late seventies aftershave I could feel the hairs on my neck bristle.
This trend of visiting one disastrous dealership after another came to an end when I suggested my wife may like a Used Audi TT. She seemed not particularly adverse to the idea (I blame this entirely on the fact that she probably didn’t even recognise the brand name Audi) so we visited out local Used Audi Dealership.
Everything was a lot different from all the other less reputable dealerships and I immediately suspected we had found the location of my wife's next great car. The place was clean, the staff were friendly and the selection of cars were absolutely phenomenal.
The lesson of the story is not to give up on the used car market because of what you have heard in the past. If you look carefully, there are some very good dealerships around who will provide you excellent used cars at great prices.

Car repairs with a diy twist

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Diy auto repair has increased in popularity almost at the same rate the economy has declined. The do it yourself auto mechanic has returned to try and hold down the costs of operating family vehicles.

The increase of do-it-yourself auto repair has not had a negative impact to the local auto repair business or mechanics. The reason for this is that auto repair of older cars and trucks is up across the board. So even though car owners are performing more repairs on their own there is still plenty of work for professional mechanics and car repair shops.

One of the driving factors behind the need for auto repair online is the simple fact that people are keeping their vehicles longer once again. As you can see on TV this is not good for your local new car dealership. Often these slow dealers are being supported by their service department.

But this is also in large part self inflicted for many reasons. One being right before the collapse of the automotive industry, a large movement towards seven-year car loans. This was used as a new tool to get people in the car they wanted at the price that seemed affordable. Seven years is a long time to be excited about owning one single car.

Diy car repairs

After seven years of making payments people are hesitant to dive into another seven-year automotive mortgage. This means they will be keeping their vehicle, on average of an additional three to five years past the loans payoff date.

Looking at the big picture 15 years of automotive maintenance leaves a large opportunity to save money on car repairs. Sticking to the maintenance schedule, as outlined in your owner’s manual is a step in the right direction.

If you do not have your owner’s manual or the vehicle is used. You can obtain your maintenance schedule by using a online car repair manual. These web-based documents can supply a lot of cost-saving information for do-it-yourself auto mechanics.

When it comes to saving money on vehicle maintenance costs over a 15-year period, every decision you make is important to the future costs of maintenance and repairs. Just one of the reasons a car repair manual is a good purchase.

Saving money on replacing parts that are not needed is the principal benefit of following a professional auto repair diagram for your car’s problem. Not paying for repairs that are covered under warranty can yield big savings over a vehicles life span.

There is a federal emissions warranty that will cover your cars catalytic converter and the main control module for 8 years or 80,000 miles.

These two parts that I mentioned are extremely expensive to pay for out-of-pocket. Many times both of these components are also misdiagnosed and replaced in error. Now the disadvantage of the federal emissions warranty is only these 2 components are covered. If your vehicle had a bad fuel injector that destroyed the catalytic converter, these repairs would not qualify for warranty coverage.

But if the catalytic converter collapsed inside because of a materials or workmanship default, this expensive repair would be covered under the federal emissions warranty for eight years or 80,000 miles. Note that this warranty is separate from the bumper to bumper and any extended auto warranty you might have.

This is often where Diy car repairs can save you some time and trouble. If the catalytic convertor or the powertrain control module fail they will most likley turn on the service engine soon light. If you have your own cheap scan tool. You can pull the codes and see what has set in the computers memory.

You can then follow the diagnostic trouble code chart from your auto repair manual to see if either of the covered components has failed. If so it's time to visit your car dealer for some possible warranty repairs. Keep in mind that the dealership will have to confirm the failure of these components. And furthermore if they are not covered you will in most cases have to pay for diagnosis time.

To summarize Diy car repairs can help you reduce your vehicles maintenance costs over time. Sticking with the vehicles recommended service schedule is the trick. A driving factor behind this increase in diy car repairs is that people are staying with their vehicles longer.

How You Can Make Money at Home Online

I am astounded by the number of people who read these articles and don’t have the courage to try what I have tried. I know you think I am not making money. I know you think I would not be talking to you if I was that well off, but this is not true. I get paid big bucks for writing these pre-sell articles. Big Bucks! Big Big Bucks!.

The first thing you need to do to make money from home online is to find a profitable niche. The research that goes into this process will be the most important part of getting started. You need to pin point down a niche in which the market is hungry for information and is willing to pay money for it. This process is surprisingly easy to do because most of the work is already done for us. We just need to leverage the research already paid for and used in sites like Amazon and Clickbank.

We can tell by visiting these sites which products are selling because they rank the products accordingly. Once we see a niche that we may be interested in and we see that there are plenty of products being sold in that niche, then all we have to do is use a keyword tool to check and see how many people are searching for this information online. If there is a high search count for the keyword terms in that niche then we move on to the next step.

The written word gets you cash! Unknown to many, you can actually write your way online to cash, that too, loads of it. Sites like Helium and Associated Content pay you a reasonable amount for just about any topic that you may choose to write on. In case you write on a topic assigned by them, the payout is even higher, sometimes as much as $200. Many blogs are also on the lookout for freelance writers to fill in the content for them. The initial payout may not be much, but with time, the payouts increase.

How about your own blog? If you are already into writing, why not write for yourself, that too on your own blog? If you think that making your own blog requires you to know complex web designing, think again. Sites like Blogger can set you up in minutes, without knowing any element of web designing. Moreover, they can set up Google AdSense on your blog whereby ads would be displayed on it, and money would be credited to your account whenever people clicked on them. In order to maximize revenues, you could consider adding affiliate links on to your blog from merchants such as Amazon.

This process works to make money from home online no matter what niche you decide to go into. Once you have sales coming in constantly with your first website, you can then rinse and repeat the process and start multiple niche websites and really cash in on the power of the internet.

Learn All About The New Toyota Venza

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Whichever label you would like to give it, the new Toyota Venza appears like a winner.

Think of the Venza as a station lorry and you’ll probably get the point. Naturally, it does not look precisely like any station van we have seen before. Exposed at Detroit’s northern US World vehicle show in Jan , Venza drew heaps of attention. Among vehicles now available, it reminds us most of the Ford Edge crossover.

There’s plenty of the Lexus RX350 in this Toyota, too, though the Venza is pressed down closer to the ground, and sleeker. Its front end is taller, but definitely molded in the theme of Toyota’s current Camry sedan. The Venza’s rear glass has a pleasant, long rake, and its taillights wrap around the rear fenders onto the hatch. Its standard wheels measure nineteen inches in diameter, while 20-inch spoked alloys are optional. In sum, the Venza is one of the more handsome, interesting vehicles Toyota has launched in a little time.

A look at its dimensions brings the crossover label into proportion. At 109.3 inches and 189 inches, respectively, the Venza’s wheelbase and overall length match both Bell Road Toyota’s Camry sedan and Highlander sport-utility within fractions of an inch. In other words, the Venza’s footprint on the pavement matches both Camry and Highlander closely. Yet with an overall height of 63.4 inches, the Venza slots right in the middle of the Camry and Highlander. It’s ride height falls somewhere in the middle, too.

The 2009 Venza seats 5, like the Camry, rather than seven like the Highlander. Its rocker height, or the lip around the base of its passenger doors, is low, making it simple to lift feet inside, yet the hip point for seated occupants is higher than the characteristic sedan’s. The combination should deliver a mix many buyers seek : simple ingress and egress, with a higher seating position for an improved view around tall vehicles on the road.

The 2009 Venza should reach showrooms with the normal model year changeover in early fall 2008. It is going to be built at Toyota’s assembly plant in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Geo Prizm is Small but Have Good Engine

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

The Geo Prizm is a vehicle which has been manufactured from 1990 up until the year 1997 by a collusion and venture by the General Motors Corporation and the Toyota Motor Company. It had actually replaced the Geo Spectrum, as well as the Chevrolet Nova among the firm’s line up of vehicle models. The Geo Prizm is a compact auto and comes in two body styles which comprise of the sedan with 4 doorways and the hatchback that sports 5 doorways. It’s been related to the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Runner , and also considered the Ford Escort, the Dodge Colt, the Honda Civic, and the Nissan Sentra as its competition. When the production of this car had been permanently halted, the Chevrolet Prizm then succeeded this vehicle.

In the US, the Geo Prizm was said to be a little vehicle In the automobile market. In that it still existed, the Geo Prizm was powered by the very same engines that the Toyota Corollas during that time also held. From 1989 up till Prizm had been powered by the 4A FE or the optional 4A GE engine. Come 1993 up until 1997, the machine was powered by the 4A FE engine or the optional 7A FE engine. As per its last years, 1998 up till the year 2002, the Geo Prizm got its power from the 1ZZ FE engine.

This vehicle was made to sport a rear spoiler as well as body coloured grilles and bumpers. There also were 4 wheel disc brakes. Changes were also done with the Geo Prizm. In 1991, the automobile was reintroduced wearing a new stainless steel exhaust system as well as black body side moldings. Folks who were able to cope with the Geo Prizm announced that notwithstanding having quite a cramped passenger room and a particularly limited cargo room, the vehicle still recovered thru a great acceleration, a superior refinement, a snug ride, exquisite visibility and a very good fuel use. Other features that the Geo Prizm held included gray steel wheels, amalgamate wheels, full wheel covers, a rounded body, snake eye headlights, flush door handles, 60/40 split back seats, a CD player, twin airbags, daytime running lights, antilock brakes, a sunroof, as well as a tilt steering wheel.

A Simple Guide to Car Manual Transmissions

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Most of us drive vehicles with automatic transmissions. They’re more convenient for daily commuting and they’re more prevalent; automakers equip the majority of their fleets with them. Having said that, cars with manual transmissions are generally more fun to drive, especially on highways and roads uncongested with traffic. The magic is in the control given to the driver. In effect, the motorist chooses which gears to hit and when to hit them, allowing him or her to maximize engine performance.

Even though manual trannies are becoming rarer each year, they continue to be the main ingredient in performance vehicles. This will be a basic guide to your car’s manual transmission. I’ll describe the basics regarding how they work, including how moving the shift knob through the gears translates into drive power to the wheels.

Keeping Below The Redline

Your vehicle’s engine has limits; it’s generally referred to as the “redline.” When you put pressure on the gas pedal, you’ll hear the engine grow louder as the RPMs climb. The redline is the point past which your engine becomes in danger of failing – or blowing apart under the stress.

Most engines enjoy their peak performance at approximately 5,500 RPMs. The goal is to reach that level but not cross it. That’s what a manual transmission does. It lets the driver set the gear ratios that allow the engine to operate within its optimal RPM range without exceeding the redline.

Gears & Clutches

In a manual 5-speed or 6-speed, the driver controls the gear ratios through the clutch, a component that connects the engine with the transmission. When the clutch pedal is pushed down, the connection is severed. When the clutch pedal is released, the connection is reestablished. When connected, engine powers the revolutions of the output shaft which in turn powers the layshaft. The geers teeth interlock with the spinning gears to coincide with the engine spinning.

How The Shift Knob Contributes To Gear Selection

From a top-down perspective, the positions of the shift knob look similar to an “H” formation. When you move the knob into a particular position, it powers a gear selector fork. The fork enables a collar inside the tranny. The collar is outfitted with dog teeth that fit into the grooves of the 1st through 5th (or 6th) gears. Depending upon the position into which you move the shift knob, the corresponding gear will be engaged.

A car’s manual transmission follows a beautifully graceful design. We don’t mean to infer that the design is simple. On the contrary, like a Swiss watch, the gears, dog teeth, and other components adhere to a well-honed precision. For car aficionados, that level of precision translates into irreplaceable engine performance.

Using Advertising Trucks To Increase Sales

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

There is a growing shift in advertising spending going on for businesses large and small. I’m not talking about internet advertising.  What I am talking about is doing outdoor media advertising and more specifically truck advertising.

Outdoor media advertising comes in many forms but one of the forms that is gaining much popularity is using truckside advertising.

Today a consumer has the choice in their hand of whether or not to see and hear the add. With Tivo and Satelllite radio becoming popular, the consumer can easily turn off all traditional advertising.

That is why a lot of businesses are looking for alternative forms of advertising. They are begging for more mediums to reach the consumer.

But not only are they begging for other ways to reach the customer, they want it to work.

Mobile billboard advertising has that advantage.  It allows an advertiser to get their message out in a way that can’t be turned off. With the way the message gets to the consumer it is plain to see why.

You have the businesses advertisement prominently displayed on a truckside or on a mobile billboard.  Those are usually vehicles specifically made just for the task of being a mobile billboard.

With their message boldly displayed, and appearing to them in traffic. A consumer has no choice but to read it. For a business that wants the ability to create brand recognition, this is a way they should consider.

Then when it is compared to other ways of advertising.  The mobile billboards prices are actually very competitive, if not cheaper for what you get.

Because when you think about it, your advertisment will be noticed by the consumer because of they way it is delivered.  More than likely during rush hour or when they are stuck in traffic. So the consumer is left with no other choice but reading the ad.  With that advantage, a businesses brand or message can easily get across.

When you see and realize how much is being spent on outdoor media advertising, you see many businesses are realizing it’s potential. In 2004 by itself, $5.8 billion dollars was spent.

So for a business looking to expand in other ways to get their ad message out to the consumer, using truckside advertising is something they ought to consider.

Not the stationary billboards on the side of the road people are used to.  But something that will be smack dab in the face of the consumer is definitely going to get the message across.

Microsoft Use Audi R8 to Promote Forza 3

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

During their 2009 E3 conference, Microsoft released details that they would be working along side Audi for the creation of a new racing game, Forza Motorsport 3. The game will feature the upcoming 2010 Audi R8 as the cover car aswell as an in-game car which developers Turn 10 have been designing along side Audi to make it looks exactly right and the physics of the car are correct.

Game directector at Turn 10, Dan Greenawalt said that the Audi R8 is “powerful but refined, sophisticated yet inviting, the perfect blend of design and performance”, he said that because of the blend of design and performance, the Audi R8 was a perfect partner for the game because that’s exactly how they approached the development of the game.

Microsoft and Audi and teaming up before the release to promote the game by running the AXF-24 Audi-Forza Challenge. This challenge will take the top 9 Forza players and put them against each other in a 24 hour Forza 3 endurance race. The 9 players will be split into 3 teams and the winning group will win an all exspenses paid trip to the 2010 Le Mans endurance race.

The event begins in New York at the Audi Forum on June 13th. As for the game, it’s being scheduled for release some time in October 2009.

Buying the upcoming Forza Motorsport 3 game isn’t the only way to get your hands on a brand new Audi R8 without having to pay the high price tag. Car leasing is the best way to get the latest cars for the lowest prices. Whether you are after Audi leasing or something less pricey like Nissan leasing, almost every car make is available for lease.

Alternatively you could simply pay the £40 for Forza Motorsport 3 and get a driving simulation of the Audi R8 and race against hundreds of other cars on over 70 race tracks, atleast you wouldn’t have to worry about scratches or where to park it.
